House in the Woods

On a more personal note, Lucas Gray (https://www.modernaduplans.com/) and I have had fun designing ourselves a house in the woods, a scale that I don't normally get to play with in my professional career, but which he excels at. It is always an adventure co-designing something so personal with your significant other who also has strong design opinions! It has given us a creative outlet and a side project to work towards building some day in the future.

We don't need (or want) a lot of space, but focus the simple design moves on the views of the forest, and want to have space for friends and family to visit. With so much hybrid work, having a dedicated work space for each of us that can double as a bunkie room for our niece and nephew when they come over adds flexibility and functionality without compromising the main living area. We have designed the space for cross ventilation, radiant floor heating, and have a continuous thermal envelope around the building, aiming for a very low energy, all electric home.

This design is coming in just under 1,600 sf of enclosed space, including the storage / office bar.
